Telcos to keep mobile data for 2 years

I am sorry I am not following policy as closely as I am the commercial sector in location based services.

My last post was on consumer concern over privacy in location based services. But if you see how much the carriers keep on you, those concerns are pretty much dwarfed.

I just sent the below link to the Australian Direct Marketing Association’s Director of Corporate & Regulatory Affairs Melina Rohan, who of course was all over it. What she told me was that the discussion here in Australia has been different to the US because the law enforcement folks are looking to change the Telecommunications Interception Act so that mobile carriers and ISPs have to retain information for two years. Despite fierce resistance its seems to have been accepted.
